Got Questions? I Have Answers.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Because workshops fill up quickly and require non refundable deposits, all registration deposits are non refundable. If you cancel more than 30 days before the trip, your remaining balance can be applied as credit towards a future workshop.
What skill level and camera gear do I need?
All skill levels are welcome, from complete beginners to advanced hobbyists. You will receive personalized, 1 on 1 instruction tailored to your current experience level. For gear, a camera body with manual settings is required. For wildlife trips, a telephoto lens of at least 400mm is highly recommended.
Are these workshops physically demanding?
Fitness requirements vary heavily by location. My winter Yellowstone, Bald Eagles, Fairbanks Northern Lights, Great Gray and Snowy Owl trips involve light walking near vehicles. In contrast, our brown bear and astrophotography workshops may require hiking on uneven terrain while carrying your own camera gear. Please review the specific trip details before booking.
What happens if the weather is bad?
I shoot in rain, snow, and wind. Dramatic weather often leads to the most unique and compelling wildlife and landscape images. I closely monitor safety conditions, but you should come prepared with high-quality weatherproofing for both your body and your camera gear.
Can my non-photographer spouse or partner join?
Yes, non-photographing spouses or partners are welcome to join. They will need to register as a paid participant to cover their shared lodging, park permits, and field transportation spots.
What is the typical group size for a workshop?
I intentionally keep my group sizes very small, typically 4 participants. This small ratio ensures you get plenty of physical space in vehicles and minimal impact on the local wildlife we are photographing.
Do we edit photos during the workshop?
Absolutely. Capturing the image is only half the process. I dedicate time during mid day breaks or evenings to download files, review images, and host Lightroom and Photoshop post-processing sessions. Bringing a laptop or tablet is highly recommended so you can follow along with your own images.
Do you guarantee wildlife sightings?
I never guarantee specific wildlife sightings, as I work strictly with wild animals in their natural habitats. However, I plan our itineraries around peak seasonal behaviors, migration patterns, and local tracking expertise to maximize your chances of capturing outstanding shots.
Is travel insurance required?
While not strictly mandatory, emergency medical and trip cancellation insurance is highly recommended. Since workshops take place in remote environments and involve non-refundable deposits, travel insurance protects your investment against unforeseen flight delays, medical emergencies, or personal cancellations.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, to secure your spot you only need to pay the initial non-refundable deposit. The remaining balance can be paid in flexible installments, just contact me upon booking and I will assist you with the process. The final payment due 30 or 60 days prior to the workshop start date. If you register close to the departure date, the full balance is due at signing.
What if a workshop is canceled due to extreme weather or pandemics?
If I was forced to cancel a workshop from my end due to extreme, unsafe conditions or park closures, you will receive a 100% credit toward a rescheduled date or a future workshop. I always monitor regional conditions closely up until the day of departure to ensure guest safety.
What happens if my camera equipment breaks during the trip?
I always recommend bringing a backup camera body if you own one. I carry basic tools, sensor cleaning kits, and a few spare plates, I cannot provide full backup systems for everyone.
